Massage Therapy is one of the most rewarding careers you can pursue, and when considering massage as a career, you want the very best education available. The training you receive will have a dramatic impact on your ability to succeed in the massage therapy profession. Whether you plan a part-time career to enhance your existing income or want to develop a full-time career capable of providing you and your family with a decent quality-of-life, you should choose a school which offers programs taught by experienced, successful therapists who have worked in virtually every facet of the massage industry. You want to learn success from those who have achieved it.
Doug Barhorst, LMT, LMTI, owner and lead instructor for BBI, was the first state-approved Massage Therapy Continuing Education Provider in Texas, and our respected Massage Instructor Training Program, which has trained over 130 Texas massage instructors since it began (more than any other program in Texas), highlight our commitment to massage education and the massage therapy profession.
Texas changed the massage laws in 2007, moving from a 300 hour program to a 500 hour program. Unfortunately, this quick (less than 90 days) and poorly planned (the state still does not have rules to administer this new law) transition did not allow adequate training time for our instructors. Our instructors have many years of successful practice and teaching experience, but they have never taught the newly required subject areas or taken the newly required licensing exams. To gain the skills necessary to provide our students with the instruction they deserve, our instructors must become knowledgeable and proficient in these subjects as well as sitting for every licensing exam their students may sit for. BBI will not treat students like guinea pigs or practice dummies. Our instructors need the time to master all of this new material before BBI will ask prospective students to trust their future to us. We will not offer the 500 hour program until we can do it well.
We are currently developing an advanced training program for those therapists who desire to increase their training from 300 hours to 500 hours and sit for one of the major exams. As a massage therapy school, BBI does not try to be all things to all people. We are specifically focused on preparing licensed massage therapists with a strong entrepreneurial spirit to plan, develop, and succeed at operating their own massage therapy practice. We are about helping you create your own career. All of our programs are focused on the convenience of our students, recognizing that they have a life to lead, often balancing work, family, and many other obligations. BBI is dedicated to empowering massage therapists to become therapeutically skilled, economically successful, and personally fulfilled. With our commitment to small class sizes, you will get the individual attention you need to succeed.
